On 24 November, Adam Savage of MythBusters is giving a lecture at the University of Twente. He is coming to discuss his work and to talk about how to be a MythBuster. Mr Savage is in the Netherlands to receive an honorary doctorate at the University of Twente's 50th anniversary Dies Natalis celebrations on 25 November. The lecture is a special one-off event for secondary school pupils, students and other invited guests.
MythBusters is an American popular science TV show broadcast by Discovery Channel. It is presented by Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, and narrated by Robert Lee. The show is all about proving or disproving modern-day myths and urban legends by reconstructing them as scientific experiments.
Honorary doctorates
As part of its 50th anniversary Dies Natalis celebrations, the University of Twente will be awarding honorary doctorates to leading scientists Professor Wolfgang Knoll and Professor Helga Nowotny, and to the inspiring entrepreneur Henri Termeer. Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, the co-hosts and executive producers of the Discovery Channel TV show MythBusters, will receive an honorary doctorate for their role in popularizing science and technology. The ceremony will be attended by Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.
On-campus lecture
The lecture by Adam Savage will be held at the Sports Centre on the University of Twente campus. It starts at 16.00 and will last for 20 minutes. The event will be rounded off with questions from the audience. There are 1.400 places available. To register, please go to www.utwente.nl/mythbusters.
