University of Twente seeks new Rector Magnificus

The Supervisory Board of the University of Twente has initiated a procedure to recruit a new Rector Magnificus who can take up the post in late 2016 as the successor to the current rector, Professor Brinksma.

In this process we want to select the best candidate as the new rector. This rector may therefore be recruited from within the university or from further afield. The official vacancy for the position of Rector Magnificus will therefore be published simultaneously both within the University of Twente community and in external media. The Supervisory Board has also asked all UT professors to nominate suitable candidates. The Supervisory Board ideally hopes to recruit a new rector who is available for two terms, in other words for eight years.

The Supervisory Board considers it of utmost importance that the new rector can count on broad support from the UT’s academic community. Equally essential is that the Executive Board must function as an effective and complementary team. An Appointment Advisory Committee, compiled with a broad representation from the UT community will therefore be convened. Following a diligent selection process including hearings with a University Council committee and members of the Strategic Council, the Supervisory Board will appoint the new Rector Magnificus.

One of the first tasks has been to develop a suitable profile for the new rector. To this end, the Supervisory Board has conducted numerous interviews with various parties on the UT campus. The draft profile was submitted to the Executive Board, the University Council and the Strategic Council for review. The Supervisory Board has now finalized the vacancy profile. Targeted recruitment can commence.

The vacancy profile will be published on www.utwente.nl/vacancies/

The Supervisory Board is striving to announce the appointment of the new Rector Magnificus during the Opening of the Academic Year on 5 September 2016. The official transition will take place during the Dies Natalis on 25 November 2016.
