Before the University of Twente officially opened in 1964, the Board of Curators of the Technische Hogeschool Twente sent a request to the University of Münster to get acquainted. That letter was the starting shot of years of close cooperation. On Tuesday, 21 May, the Executive Board and Rector Johannes Wessel of the University of Münster celebrated the fact that it is exactly 60 years since the boards of both universities first met.
“Back then, the Board of Curators already considered it enormously relevant to build good contacts with the University of Münster, given the proximity and the close ties between the regions on both sides of the border”, rector Tom Veldkamp of the University of Twente states. “That insight is as relevant today as it was 60 years ago: there is a great sense of togetherness, we undertake a lot together in the fields of education, research and valorisation, and we greatly appreciate the cooperation with our eastern neighbours!”
Johannes Wessels, rector of the University of Münster: “Over 60 years ago, we laid the foundations for a long-standing partnership from which we all benefit to this day: academics, staff and students. Cooperation is rooted in almost all areas - from medicine, the natural sciences and politics to the REACH - EUREGIO Start-up Centre and transnational degree programmes.”
