Stephan Maathuis new director of Saxion's LED Academy

Stephan Maathuis is stepping down as portfolio holder of operational management at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science at the University of Twente (UT). As of 1 July, he will become the new director of the Academy of Life Science, Engineering & Design at Saxion University of Applied Sciences.

After studying Business Administration at UT, he started working at the university in 1992 as a lecturer in international management and project leader, then held various positions within UT. In 2009, he transitioned to the central policy staff, first as an internationalisation advisor and then as a strategic policy advisor and head of the Policy Monitoring section. In 2015, he was appointed director of business operations at EEMCS, where he has shaped the faculty's business development over the past nine years.

Stephan on his departure: "When my appointment at Saxion was finalised, I realised that more than thirty years at the University of Twente are coming to an end. I look back with great pleasure on my time at UT, not only because of my special and challenging work but also because of the many beautiful moments I have had with colleagues and students. I have had a fantastic time and many opportunities here, but this was also the moment to take on this exciting new challenge at Saxion."

Machteld Roos, vice-chair of the UT Executive Board: "We are very grateful to Stephan for his contribution to the UT and the Faculty of EEMCS in particular. In his role as portfolio holder, he represented the people in the faculty but was always in the midst of them. He was approachable for his colleagues and was also a very pleasant colleague at the board table."

The Board is currently considering the vacant position and is expected to provide more clarity on an interim appointment in the short term.
