Sirius Request: 'Look out for yourself'

In December, the festivity could not take place because of the coronavirus. But, postponement is not a cancellation for study association Sirius: on Monday 27 June the Sirius Request event 'Look out for yourself' will take place. The board members of Sirius will lock themselves up in their board room to make radio, draw attention to mental health and raise money for MIND. The name Sirius Request is a nod to Serious Request, which is held annually on radio station NPO3FM to raise money for a good cause, with DJs locked in a glass house making radio 24 hours a day.

From their boardroom in the Technohal, the Sirius board members provide a live (online) radio broadcast full of funny but also serious and always interesting items. Rector Tom Veldkamp will be their guest to talk about the most important topic of the day, student wellbeing, five men will have their heads shaved live and the 'I love Sirius' game show will be held, in the style of the well-known Dutch TV programme Ik hou van Holland.

ATTENTION FOR MENTAL HEALTH

By holding the event, the students of Sirius want to draw attention to the fact that mental health is a subject that needs to be discussed. They will also collect money for MIND, an organisation that fights mental illness. MIND wants to support people who are dealing with these and ensure more openness and understanding. They do this by providing information, carrying out research, initiating projects and campaigning.

In April, fellow board member Jesper Benus passed away. His death caused a stir among the students of Sirius, the study association of the bachelor programmes Management, Society & Technology, Public Governance across Borders and Health Sciences, and the master programmes Public Administration, European Studies and Health Sciences. On the U-Today website, two board members explain why are they organising this event, as a tribute to their friend Jesper.

Anyone who wants to donate can do so via the MIND platform. Of course, you are also warmly invited to follow the entire day live. Of course, you can do that in front of the boardroom in the Technohal, but you can also watch and listen via the live stream. As soon as the link to the live stream is available, it can be found on the website of Sirius.

On Thursday 23 June an auction will take place. The entire proceeds of this auction will go to charity. A MacBook, a table tennis table and tickets for the Rijksmuseum will be auctioned. If you want to participate in the auction, you can do so on 23 June from 19.30 in the Technobar.
