Double Degree

Get support in choosing a master's

Expand your knowledge and skills in Educational Science & Technology with a deeper psychological understanding of Learning Sciences at the Ludwig Maximilians Universität (LMU) in Munich, Germany.

As a student of the Master’s in Educational Science & Technology, who also did a bachelor’s in the field of education, you may have the opportunity to follow a double degree programme, that we offer together with our partner university, the Ludwig Maximilians Universität (LMU) in Munich, Germany. In this two-year, English-taught programme, you will delve deeper into basic psychology and domain-related topics such as reading, writing and arithmetic. Upon completion, you will receive two Master’s degrees:

Structure

The double degree programme entails a total of two years (four semesters). You spend one year in Munich, Germany and one year at UT. You can start the double degree programme in October or February. Starting in October, you will spend the first year at LMU in Munich and continue the second year at UT. If you choose to start the double degree programme in February, you will spend the first semester at UT, then one year at LMU in Munich and then another semester at UT.

Note: if you need to follow a Pre-Master’s first, it will take 2,5 to 3 years to complete the double degree programme, depending on the moment you start.

Next to the (elective) courses belonging to the UT Master’s in Educational Science & Technology, you will follow courses in Munich in different modules. For example, you will learn about the neuro-cognitive aspects of learning and development, different approaches in organisational learning and about learning in specific domains, such as mathematics or language. You will end your double degree programme by writing your Master’s thesis. You will do this under the joint supervision of professors from both universities.

How to apply

If you want to enrol in the double degree programme, you have to apply at both universities separately. This means that you need to comply with the admission requirements of both master’s. Being admitted to the (Pre-)Master’s in EST does not mean that you will automatically be accepted into the Master’s in Learning Sciences at LMU.

Whether you decide to start in Munich in October or at UT in February, we ask you to notify us first that you are planning to follow the Double Degree programme. Our study adviser is happy to give you further instructions about the application process. Just send an e-mail and we will guide you through!
