Want to apply to a UT Master's programme? This requires you to pay a non-refundable application fee for some programmes.

Students from the faculties EEMCS and ET who are holding a non-Dutch educational degree have to pay an application fee of €100 for an application to a master’s programme. This means that your application will only be reviewed once the application fee has been paid and the money has been received by UT. The application fee will not be refunded.

Students who wish to apply for more than one programme only need to pay the application fee once.

Application fee for which programmes?

Two faculties charge an application fee. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS), applies an application fee for the following master's programmes:

The Faculty of Engineering Technology (ET) applies the application fee for the following master's programmes:

Civil Engineering & Management
Construction Management & Engineering
Industrial Design Engineering
Humanitarian Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Sustainable Energy Technology

Who has to pay the application fee?

Students choosing a programme from the faculties ET or EEMCS holding a non-Dutch educational degree have to pay an application fee. Students who did not follow and complete their entire educational degree in the Netherlands, regardless of nationality, also have to pay the application fee. The application fee payment for a master's is only valid for two consecutive academic years if you defer your application after (conditional) admission, and will expire after this period.

Exemptions to paying the application fee

Under the following conditions, you are exempt from paying the application fee:

You have followed and completed your entire (Dutch recognised) pre-education in the Netherlands, regardless of nationality. These programmes must give admission to the UT programme you want to apply for.
Joint Degree, Double Degree based on nomination from your home institution
If you have already applied for and paid the application fee for another programme at UT for the same intake moment. If you apply for a bachelor's and master's for the same intake moment, you have to pay the application fee for the bachelor's and the master's.
Collaborations according to the collaboration construction with Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), Lodz, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (AMRITA).
If you are a Dutch recognised refugee student who applied via DigiD. Only the students with code 26 or code 27 who are recognised refugees in the Netherlands will be exempt.
Requested asylum seekers who have a so-called W-document or similar proof of being in the same asylum application procedure.
If you are transferring within UT from one programme to another programme and if you are already enrolled and studying in a programme and want to apply for a second programme.

When paying the application fee by wire transfer, we ask you to include your invoice number in the payment. This helps us process your payment more efficiently. Also, note that international transfers often incur bank fees. Ensure that the full amount of €100 is transferred, plus possible additional fees for bank charges. Deferred students

An admission decision for the master's programme is valid for two academic years, meaning that you do not have to pay again when you want to defer. This only applies if you have received a (conditional) admission for the original/initial application. If you have been rejected or never received a decision, you cannot defer and must pay again. As indicated, this is valid for two academic years:

If you register for the February intake, the decision and payment remain valid for the September and February intake.
If you register for the September intake, the decision and payment remain valid for the February intake, September intake, and the February intake that follows.

How can I pay?

Payment of the application fee is integrated into Osiris. In the questionnaire of the application, one of the first questions contains the information and refers to the application fee, which you can pay.

When signing up in Osiris, you will see information regarding the application fee in the application form. You can use a credit card, PayPal, iDEAL or bank transfer. You will receive all the bank details once you fill in your application in Osiris.

The application fee has to be paid in advance according to the application deadline that applies to you. UT will only process your application if the payment has reached UT's bank account, and you have submitted a complete application before the application deadline. Take the transfer processing times from your bank to the Netherlands into account. This may take a couple of days.

If you cannot pay right now

If you cannot pay right now, e.g., you will get a scholarship, and you do not have the money to pay the fee, you cannot be exempted from paying the application fee if none of the listed exemptions applies to you. Please note, that your application will only be reviewed once UT has received the application fee/money.

If you do not have all the required documents yet

It is possible to pay the fee if you do not have all the documents for the application yet. However, please be aware that UT needs all the required documents before the application deadline to handle and process your application.

Do I get the application fee refund?

No, you will not receive a refund for the application fee. Refunds are never issued, even if your application is rejected, or if you start the application, pay the fee, but never submit it, and it is later cancelled after the corresponding deadlines. Additionally, if your application is incomplete and cancelled due to missing a deadline, no refund will be provided either.

Please note that the systems aanmelder.nl, Studielink, and Osiris will remain open and operational. This means that you may still be able to apply and pay the application fee even after the official deadline has passed. However, late applications will not be considered, and no refunds will be issued for application fees paid after the deadline.

Can UT see the status of my application fee payment?

Yes, UT can see the status of your application fee payment. Although the payment system is managed by an external provider, aanmelder.nl, UT has access to your payment information. If you experience any issues with your payment or need information about the status, please contact Student Services.

If you made a wire transfer without including your transaction code, make sure to provide Student Services with your transaction details. This will allow us to finalise the payment and send you the official invoice.

Are there any waivers available?

Unfortunately, the University of Twente does not offer application fee waivers. All officially recognised exemptions to the standard requirements are clearly outlined on the University's website. Please consult this website to determine whether any of the listed exceptions may apply to your situation. Please note that individual requests for waivers outside the stated exceptions cannot be considered.
