Supervising PhD/EngD candidates - a mutual process

Supervising doctoral candidates is a joint effort

Effective communication, understanding each other’s expectations, and giving and receiving feedback are essential aspects of a fruitful supervisory relationship between the doctoral candidate and the whole supervisory team.

The UT offers a variety of tools and training opportunities to support PhD/EngD candidates and supervisors in this process. The list below is useful, but limited. If you can't find what you are looking for, check the website of the Centre for Training and Development or Course Finder for more options. PhD candidates can also have a look at the TGS PhD Education Programme page where suggested courses are listed in relation to PhD exit qualifications like collaboration, managing research and self-management.
