Leadership at UT

Being a leader at university of twente

“A great conductor (and leader) is the one who just not only knows what to do, but knows how to enable his entire musician group to perform effectively. They not just create a process, but also create a condition in which the process takes place.”

UT leadership framework

The UT has its own leadership framework to create a shared understanding of leadership and provide clarity on the expectations and responsibilities of leaders in promoting well-being, creating a safe environment and fostering the growth and development of employees and themselves.

Stakeholder involvement

The framework is the result of co-creation, with a diverse group of UT leaders contributing their valuable insights and expertise. It is the outcome of careful consideration and collaboration with various stakeholders within the organization.

The framework serves as a reflection- and dialogue tool for development conversations, such as annual reviews, and provides input for recruitment processes, training, and assessment programs. It is intended as a guide and a common reference point for leaders to actively contribute to the vision of a talent-powered culture at the university. It's important to emphasize that it is not a checklist, nor an additional job profile or requirement, and does not guarantee promotions.

Reflection on your leadership style is imperative as a good leader. To facilitate this process, additional reflection forms were created for you to download and use next to the leadership framework. You can fill it in digitally or print and write, whatever suits your needs.

Your own development

Managing is a profession that requires all manner of skills: you need to be able to formulate a vision, collaborate, motivate, coach, innovate and do business. As a manager, you support the professionals in your team to achieve the desired results and in the advancement of their professional development. Strong leadership means that you provide energy and direction to people and processes even in the face of resistance.

The UT finds it important to continue to invest in the development of this leadership within the organisation.
