International Women's Day 2022

International Women's Day is celebrated every year on 8 March. This year again, we will be celebrating this day with attention. For UT, International Women's Day is an opportunity to put our female students and staff in the spotlights, to encourage them to keep going and, importantly, to recognise and reflect on the challenges and difficulties women - and all those who identify their gender as female - encounter when studying and working in academia.

The 2022 theme is #BreakTheBias. Do you want to help us break possible biases at UT? Join us at one (or more) of the events on 8 March or on one of the other days during that week. Take a look at the programme! Any questions? Please feel free to contact the DE&I Team.

8 March 2022

  • Round table discussion - hosted by UT's Female Faculty Network - 12.30 - 13.45 - online and in DesignLab INFORM

UT's Female Faculty Network Twente (FFNT) will be organising a thought-provoking round table discussion on biases women in academia encounter and the challenges faced because of them. Do you wish to join? Use the button below to get detailed information and to register.

This event is open to everyone (staff and students). Signing up is mandatory.

  • Exhibition Women of Mathematics throughout Europe - 8 March - 25 March - University Library (Vrijhof)

The exhibition presents the photographic portraits of female mathematicians from all around Europe, who share with us their experiences as mathematicians, thus serving as role models.

Please come and get inspired! No registration required.

  • Exhibition about the daily lives of female students and staff - hosted by Amnesty International Enschede student group - 8 -25 March - University Library (Vrijhof)

Enschede's very own Amnesty International student group will be inspiring us with an exhibition centred around the daily lives of our female staff and students. This black and white portrait exhibition marks female presence and impact on campus by showing how in reality we all face similar experiences as our sex becomes part of our identity.

Please come and get inspired! No registration required.

  • Potluck and discussion organised by Ambitious Women UT - DesignLab INFORM - 18.00-21.00

Let's talk about #BreakTheBias and share food. So, please bring some food to share and join the conversation! Please contact the Ambitious Women UT if you have any questions.

10 March 2022

  • P-NUT Speed networking event - hosted by P-NUT's women initiative - 12.00 - 13.00 - online and on campus: link and location will be shared after registration

P-NUT's PhD and PDEng women initiative will be organising what we can only hope to be an inspiring speed dating session encouraging female PhD candidates to find experienced mentors within our community to connect with. Please register below if you wish to join!

This speed networking event is open to all female (or all those why identify their gender as female) PhD and PDENG candidates.

We encourage you to visit the International Women's Day 2022 website where you can find more information and inspiration about what it is you can do to help #BreakTheBias. And we would like to share this inspiring short video (2019) called "Mother, scientist". Seen through the eyes of their children, how is it like to be a scientist at UT?
