Twente for Protest holds local gathering against budget cuts following cancellation of the national protest

Twente for Protest is holding a gathering on the University of Twente campus tomorrow, Thursday, 14 November, against the planned budget cuts to higher education. This group, consisting of University of Twente employees and students, prepared the Twente input for the national protest in recent weeks, which was to take place in Utrecht. However, its organisation decided to cancel it for security reasons.

Twente for Protest invitation

Dear UT community,

Tomorrow, universities around the country will host local walkouts and protests at their own campus.

We invite you to come with us, Twente for Protest, and help us organize the next steps against the budget cuts to higher education.

📆 Thursday, November 14th
⏱️ 13h00 to 15h00
📍 o&o square between Carré and Ravelijn

We have prepared a program and are hoping to have a member of the Executive Board join us.

As we write this, a national strategy is being planned. Members of WOinActie will speak at the Tweede Kamer tomorrow and, in collaboration with the unions and all of us, will be using this momentum to make our movement even stronger.

We call on all individuals to focus on these local events and to use them to express our solidarity and focus on the concrete steps to take: making every student and staff member aware and mobilize against the budget cuts to higher education.

In solidarity,

Twente for Protest

The meeting will start with a walk-out across campus, followed by a central programme on the O&O Square around 13:45. Rector Tom Veldkamp will also attend. Machteld Roos, vice president of the UT's Executive Board, will be in The Hague to join as a representative of the universities in talks with a number of MPs.
