KNAW Ter Meulen grant for UT research into rehabilitation for children

Cristina Bayón-Calderón, postdoctoral researcher at the University of Twente, has been received the KNAW Ter Meulen grant. She is one of twenty-six young researchers in the field of paediatrics and related disciplines who will be going abroad in the coming year to carry out a scientific research project.

Bayón-Calderón received this international boost for her NWO VENI grant. With the Ter Meulen grant, she will be able to carry out part of her VENI at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). There, she will make a collaboration to test her inGAIT device in a larger population. This is a device developed to alleviate pathological gait in children with Cerebral Palsy.

inGAIT project

The main goal of the inGAIT project (NWO VENI grant) is to go beyond conventional methods of rehabilitation. Namely by investigating new technologies for cerebral palsy to be used in everyday life. The expansion of this VENI project on an international level enriches the results of inGAIT, and benefits the European and Dutch paediatric fields.

Ter Meulen grant

The Ter Meulen grants are between €4,000 and €25,000 for carrying out a scientific research abroad up to 12 months.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, the Medical Sciences Fund was not open for applications in 2020. Therefore, in 2021, both the budget of the Ter Meulen scholarships of 2020 and 2021 were made available, in total €416,000.
