Blackboard will be Canvas from the start of academic year 2018-19

With the start of academic year 2018-19, Canvas will be the new learning management system of the UT; the successor of Blackboard. From academic year 2018-19, all courses will use Canvas. Together with a group of student assistants we have supported our lecturers in preparing their courses in Canvas.

How to use Canvas

For courses from your study programme, you first have to register for the course in OSIRIS (same as last year). Your course material will be presented in Canvas.

Login to Canvas: https://canvas.utwente.nl/, enter the username and password of your ICT account.

Two weeks before the start of the quartile, the course will be accessible from the Canvas Dashboard. Before that, the course will be listed under ‘Future enrolments’ in Courses and is not accessible yet.

We also advise you to read the Canvas quick reference guide. This should be enough to get you going. If you need help, manuals or documentation you can check out the Student help page. More information about Canvas can be found at the Canvas website utwente.nl/canvas.

And what will happen to your Blackboard material?

Blackboard will no longer be the learning management environment of the UT. Your Blackboard material is still available for you in the Blackboard archive, available on the current Blackboard url and accessible by logging in with your student number and password.

In general Blackboard will be available to you as follows:

  • Until September 2018:  Adding files or making changes in Blackboard is possible
  • From October 2018: Blackboard archive. Read-only, downloading your Blackboard content will still be possible for 2 years
  • From Academic year 2020-21: Blackboard access on request (for accreditation etc.)

Kind regards,

UT Canvas project team
