The relocation of the ITC to the O&O square on campus is one of the two major projects outlined in the University of Twente’s Long-Term Housing Strategy. A new building is being developed for ITC, in the spot where the Citadel is currently located.
To prepare this area for development, the building is to be demolished and current users will be relocated to new or temporary accommodation.
New accommodation for the UCT, LISA and CES departments
The new ITC building is scheduled to be complete in early 2020. In the first half of 2018, demolition of the current Citadel building will commence. The current Citadel users, including University College Twente ATLAS, the IT Infra & Operations and LISA’s customer support departments, as well as a number of CES departments, are expected to move to new or temporary accommodation at the beginning of 2018.
Basic requirements for new or temporary accommodation
In the past few months, all parties involved have reviewed the most ideal situations and programmes of requirement have been drawn up for new and temporary accommodation. A wide variety of options have been discussed. With a view to selecting the best possible circumstances, the prospect of moving in the spring or summer of 2018 has been taken into consideration. The focus is on permanent good quality support of the primary process, with longer-term temporary housing and a limited number of relocations for various groups. The investments needed have to be limited.
The Executive Board’s decision
Based on the above, the Executive Board has decided on the following new or temporary accommodations for these organizational units:
- LISA IT Services (ITO and CS) will be permanently relocated to the Spiegel building.
- CES: CES organizational units will temporarily relocate from Citadel to the Spiegel, Zilverling and Ravelijn buildings, and to temporary housing.
- University College Twente ATLAS: project-based education and personal guidance offered by UCT lecturers/mentors require diversity in the classrooms and lecture halls. Community spirit plays an important role in UCT education. For UCT, a location with appropriate spaces for office and community functions near the O&O square would be preferable. It turns out that in the current situation, the Paviljoen building offers the best temporary alternative for staff and community activities. The lecture rooms at O&O square will be used for education.
- Facility Service Centre: to prepare the Paviljoen building for the UCT relocation, the Facility Service Centre will be moved to temporary units on campus for the time being.
- Additional Central Educational Facilities (COV): considering the expected increase in students in the upcoming year, we expect that additional education- and study facilities will be leased as part of the COV.
Together with involved parties and the directors of the support services, the above decisions will be further elaborated.
