Battle of the greenest campus dorm

No less than 24 dorms on the campus of the University of Twente decided to join Sustainabattle: which one knows best how to save energy and shows true energy awareness? Energy consumption of all dorms will be shared online during the month of the competition, to make it even more exciting. Apart from lowest energy consumption, teams can also score points presenting sustainable plans for improving their dorm. Sustainabattle is one of the projects within the Living Smart Campus initiative.

‘Are you ready to rumble?’ With this stimulating appeal, project leader Martijn Zomerplaag opened the kick-off of the Sustainabattle project, in the campus’ Open Air Theatre. The meeting was the ‘energizer’ for the competition lasting from April 11 to May 10. Using a ‘Wattcher’, student dorms monitor their electricity use and share it online. Apart from low energy use, ideas about sustainable modifications to their dorm count in this competition, as well as attractive photos or videos made during the month of the competition. There will be a jury verdict in the end, the winning dorm will get budget for organizing a great party, and an energy-efficient refrigerator.

Sustainabattle is one of the six projects of Living Smart Campus, using the UT campus as a living lab for experiments on ICT, sustainability and health.
