60 creative talents in the Creative Technology major at the University of Twente will present their installations at GOGBOT (10 - 13 September) in Enschede. The multimedia festival, this year with the theme of "The Internet of Things", combines art and technology and forms a huge open-air amusement park. The students combine user interaction and groundbreaking technology and design in a special UT Innovation Pavilion at the Oude Markt.
Students of Creative Technology have been invited once again by the GOGBOT organisation to present their unique installations. The GOGBOT theme ‘Internet of Things’ was paramount during the Creative Technology education module ‘Have Fun & Play'. This year, the course's theme is "the Internet of Things". In this, all of the objects around us get an Internet connection. This way, the refrigerator, for example, can automatically order milk when it's needed. GOGBOT and Creative Technology have a longer history. UT Professor Mariëlle Stoelinga is one of the driving forces in the collaboration, which is intensifying.
This year, the CreaTe students get a central place at GOGBOT. Their 14 installations can be seen at a large UT Innovation Pavilion at the Oude Markt, right next to the Grote Kerk.
INTERNET OF THINGS VINTAGE LIVING ROOM
This year, too, the CreaTe’rs have focused all their creativity on deploying the latest technology and new media for interaction with users.
For example, an ‘internet heart’ can be seen at GOGBOT; it beats faster or slower depending on the number of tweets sent. The heart also prints out those tweets.
In a special Internet of Things living room in vintage style, everything you touch is connected to the Internet. From the old-fashioned rotary dial telephone to the slippers, typewriters and cigarette packages.
VIRTUAL REALITY DRIVE THROUGH ENSCHEDE
The VR drive through Enschede is also a unique installation. The user steps into a vintage car, puts on a set of Oculus Rift goggles and, by steering the car, can take a virtual drive around the Oude Markt in Enschede.
ABOUT CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY
How can you use the latest technology or new media for interaction with users? The Creative Technology major challenges you to develop innovative applications using new technologies that make life healthier, simpler and more pleasurable. Using clever technology, new media and creative thinking, these students affect and improve our daily lives.
On the educational website, you can read about why you should study Creative Technology at the University of Twente.
GOGBOT runs from 10 to 13 September 2015. UT rector Ed Brinksma will perform the opening on 10 September at 8:00 in the evening at the Oude Markt in Enschede.
