Prof. Allard Mosk from the department of Complex Photonic Systems (COPS) at the MESA+ research institute has been appointed a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA). The appointment is in recognition of Mosk's development of a new approach to the focusing and imaging of light through strongly scattering media, such as paint, paper and biological tissue.
The OSA's mission is to promote the generation, application and archiving of knowledge in optics and photonics. Members of the OSA nominate their peers for Fellow Membership, with the OSA's Board of Directors approving nominations. No more than 10% of the total OSA membership is awarded a fellowship. Mosk is the only Dutch national upon whom this honour was conferred this year. Three years ago, Willen Vos, a colleague of Mosk's at the department of Complex Photonic Systems, was also appointed a Fellow of the OSA.
