The University of Twente and Roessingh Research and Development (RRD) plan to work more closely together in the field of rehabilitation technology and ‘telemedicine’. On Friday 19 April, both parties signed a cooperation agreement. Enhanced cooperation should ensure that newly developed technology becomes available more quickly for use with patients.
The University of Twente (UT) and Roessingh Research and Development (RRD) have been working together in a number of fields for some time already. A large number of joint research projects are already underway and in recent years four RRD researchers have been appointed as part-time professors at the University. These professors supervise as many as 30 PhD students.
Cooperation agreement
Representatives from the University of Twente and Roessingh Research and Development will sign an agreement to formalize their alliance on Friday 19 April. Joining forces should lead to new rehabilitation technology and technology for ‘telehealth’ services that will become available for patients more quickly.
The benefits of enhanced cooperation are that RRD and the University will be in a better position to bring their technology to market, University students will have the opportunity to become familiar with the clinical practices of RRD while they are still studying, and RRD researchers will have even better access to the technological expertise of the University. In practical terms, the intensified alliance will also mean that all PhD students from RRD will gain their PhD from the University of Twente, a University manager will sit on a newly formed Advisory Board at RRD, and the University will provide an annual financial contribution to RRD to support work being done for the benefit of joint research goals.
