New hydrogen car from Twente faster and more economical

University of Twente student team Green Team Twente unveiled their brand-new hydrogen car, the Aurora One, at the Grolsch Veste in Enschede. This hydrogen-fuelled vehicle of the future is set to compete for the world title of fastest and most economical city car in July.

The UT's international and multidisciplinary team consists of 22 dedicated students, all of whom believe hydrogen is the answer to the growing demand for new types of fuel. The students have been busy designing, building, and testing the Aurora One since early September and have high expectations of the city car.

Changes

Last year, Green Team Twente paid particular attention to presenting itself as part of the established order in the field of technological development and sustainability. Adopting a new identity for the latest generation of Aurora One played a big part in this. A different colour and a completely new aerodynamic design set it apart from its predecessors. These changes are echoed in the car’s outward appearance. Clean lines emphasise the aerodynamic design, while the green paint represents the new identity of Green Team Twente. On top of its new look, Aurora One is now 10km/h faster and can cover a distance of 1,000km using just 1 litre of fuel.

Shell Eco-Marathon

The team will travel to London in early July to participate in the Shell Eco-Marathon, the largest fuel efficiency race in the world. The students hope to use this race to put the quality of Twente engineering in the spotlight and show that Green Team Twente is good enough to compete at the top. Unlike previous years, the focus this year is not only on efficiency but also on speed. During the Drivers' World Championship the team wants to prove that, on top of being economical, Aurora One can race. The students’ goal is to show that Aurora One is the city car of the future.
