Roomspot.nl helps students and young people find a place to live

On 6 February the University of Twente and various partners launched Roomspot. This is a new online platform where both Dutch and international students can find a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the available rooms and independent accommodation in Enschede, Hengelo and the surrounding area. Previously, these students would have to register on a number of different websites in order to qualify for accommodation.

Roomspot is a joint initiative of the City of Enschede, De Veste housing corporation, Stichting Jongeren Huisvesting Twente Foundation (SJHT), Saxion University of Applied Sciences and the University of Twente. Ruud Mittendorff, Managing Director of SJHT, explains: “The housing supply in this area was extremely fragmented, which made the search even harder for young house hunters. We wanted to simplify their search by creating one easily accessible portal for rooms and accommodations offered by various suppliers. This dream became a reality when Roomspot.nl went live and we are very proud of the result!”

Roomspot.nl offers students, young people and PhD students from the Netherlands and abroad a comprehensive and reliable overview of the available accommodation in the area. Every day, the Stichting Jongeren Huisvesting Twente Foundation and De Veste housing corporation post available rooms, studios and apartments on this website. The goal for the future is to also join forces with other landlords and housing associations to turn Roomspot.nl into the main portal for house searches.

Available accommodation at a glance

The website is available in both Dutch and English, which allows international students to search and find accommodation before leaving their home countries. Registration at Roomspot is free of charge and personalized search profiles allow house hunters to view the available accommodation suitable for them at a glance.

Dr Mirjam Bult, vice-president of the Executive Board of the University of Twente, is very pleased with the joint initiative: "The University of Twente wants to help all students find accommodation that is suitable for them. Roomspot.nl is expected to become the go-to portal where supply and demand in the Enschede area come together.”

Win a room makeover!

This playful online campaign is Roomspot’s way of spreading word and attracting attention. By sharing a message on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #Roomspotactie, participants can win a room makeover worth €1500. The winner gets a visit from an interior stylist, who will give the room a makeover.
