Dr. Litska Strikwerda, who completed her dissertation at the University of Twente in 2014, has won the Stichting Praemium Erasmianum dissertation award. She is one of five your researchers in the Netherlands to win the award, and her dissertation was selected out of 42 dissertations that were submitted by Dutch universities in the fields of humanities, social sciences and law. The prize consists of an award of € 3000,-.
Litska Strikwerda was recommended for the prize by her thesis supervisor, Prof.dr. Philip Brey, in the Department of Philosophy. Copromotors were dr. Johnny Soraker (UT) and dr. Philip Nickel (TU Eindhoven).
Dr. Strikwerda’s dissertation, Virtual Acts, Real Crimes? A Legal-Philosophical Analysis of Virtual Cybercrime is an investigation of the conditions, if any, under which virtual cybercrime (such as theft of virtual property in the virtual world of a computer game) should be brought under the scope of criminal law.
Dr. Strikwerda is currently a tenure-track assistant professor at the department of meta law (metajuridica) at the Open University.
