Kees Ruijter leaves with Juliana Medal

Kees Ruijter worked at University College ATLAS and is saying farewell to the University of Twente after 40 years’ service.

Ruijter played an important role in the establishment of University College ATLAS, where he subsequently spent two years as principal. During his career, Ruijter was particularly instrumental in improving the education system and the quality of education. In recognition of his outstanding services to the UT, he received the Juliana Medal from vice-chancellor Ed Brinksma yesterday.

Juliana Medal

The Juliana Medal has existed since 2000 and is awarded to people who have performed outstanding services for the UT: employees, students or (sometimes) people from outside the university. The Juliana Medal owes its name to the former Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, who officially opened the University of Twente. The Juliana Medal is an honour that recognizes the many good acts performed by someone for the University of Twente. The medal can also be awarded on the occasion of a special anniversary or at the end of a distinguished career in the university’s service. Awards are made by executive decision, on the initiative of the Executive Board or through the nomination of an employee or student of the University of Twente. The frequency of the award is not fixed. In principle, the Juliana Medal is awarded by the Chair of the Executive Board.
