The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) has approved five University of Twente research projects in the field of cyber security. The projects, to be carried out at the University's Centre for Telematics and Information Technology (CTIT), will contribute to an increase in security in our digital society, without losing sight of privacy aspects. The sum involved for the UT amounts to approximately €1,5 million.
The approved projects form part of the NWO's long-term Cyber Security research programme and will have a great deal of impact on society. Five of the eleven projects (worth €3.3 million in total) are University of Twente projects, meaning that the UT has a significant share of the research into cyber security.

Government's integrated approach to security
The research into cyber security is a part of the government's National Cyber Security Strategy (NCSS2, now in its second edition). In implementing this strategy, the government is aiming at an integrated approach to security in a free and open digital society. Education and research will ensure that the desired level of security will also be achieved in the future. The call for long-term research through the NWO's Cyber Security research programme fits in with top sector policy and particularly with the ICT Roadmap.
The knowledge institutions that submitted the project proposals are expected to work together with business and industry and/or social organizations. Those organizations that work with the proposers are also expected to make a contribution. The call is also for multidisciplinary solutions as there are multidisciplinary dimensions to cyber security.
