Looking for a challenge? Broaden your horizon by adding an extra programme to your Master's!

As a student at the University of Twente (UT), you have many opportunities to expand your knowledge outside of your own Master’s as well. Are you up for a challenge? Gain additional meaningful and multidisciplinary skills and knowledge to be able to respond to societal challenges and questions even more effectively. Complementing your Master’s with an additional programme might be the perfect way to do so.

Combine two master's

You have the opportunity to extend your Master’s in Industrial Engineering & Management with another master’s at UT, for example with Applied Mathematics or Civil Engineering.

Such a combined programme usually consists of a combination of compulsory courses of both master’s, a set of elective courses, an extended Master’s assignment and in some cases a combined internship. Overall, combining two master’s will result in a programme of three years (180 EC) that meets the requirements of both master’s.

A double master’s programme is always tailor-made. If you’re interested in combining the Master’s in IEM with another master’s, please contact the programme coordinator for your options. Your plan for combining two master’s needs approval from both Boards of Examiners.

Master Honours programme

Give your resume an extra boost with the Master Honours programme! This extracurricular, broadening programme of 15 EC gives you, alongside your Master’s, the opportunity to grow and prepare yourself for your professional career even further. You enrich your knowledge, skills, attitude, cooperation and experiences outside of your own discipline. On successfully completing the programme, you receive a certificate and an Honours Pin.

Workload

The Master Honours is an extracurricular programme and not an individual study programme. You follow it alongside your Master’s, so it increases your workload with respect to your regular study load. The Honours programme comprises 15 EC, which means you spend an extra ten to fourteen hours a week studying.

The honours programme consists of four different tracks you can choose from.

  1. The Master Honours Change Leaders enables you to handle the difficulties of a change project as a skilled leader.
  2. In the Master Design Honours you get to design novel solutions to technological and societal challenges.
  3. The Master Honours Great Negotiators focuses on developing your negotiation and communication skills, strategic deal-making and ethical conflict management.
  4. The Master Research Honours enables you to further develop your research skills.

Master-Insert ‘Shaping Responsible Futures’

Biomedical engineering, psychology, mechanical engineering, applied physics, philosophy. Several disciplines that are taught at UT pass by.

Workload

The Master-Insert is a fulltime programme of six months, organised by UT’s DesignLab. You can add it to your Master’s curriculum, ideally prior to your graduation project. This means you put your regular Master’s on hold for six months.

The Master-Insert is open to all master’s students at UT. However, admission is based on intrinsic motivation.
