You have a great deal of freedom in customising your Master’s in Environmental & Energy Management.
As a student, you can tailor your Master’s to your own wishes and ambitions. For example, you will choose a specialisation which enables you to develop expertise within a specific domain. Your choice determines the type of case project you will work on in your second semester, as well as the research theme(s) you will cover in your master’s thesis.
How to compose your Master’s
What your curriculum looks like, partly depends on the choices you make in composing your Master’s. There are two steps in doing so.
Step 1 Select personal development electives During your studies, you will follow a set of compulsory courses. Additionally, you will choose two personal development electives. There are five elective courses you can choose from:
Step 2 Choose your specialisation During the first semester, it is time for you to choose a specialisation. This enables you to gain expertise in one of the three crucial domains within MEEM: energy, environment or water. Your choice determines which domain you will focus on during the case project and master’s thesis in your second semester.

Whichever specialisation you will choose: you will still develop solid expertise in the areas of the other specialisations as well, as these are highly interconnected. You can even still combine these domains within your final thesis project.
Master’s structure
During your Master’s in Environmental & Energy Management, you will collect a total of 60 EC within one year.
European Credit Transfer System
Student workload at Dutch universities is expressed in EC, also named ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System), widely used throughout the European Union. In the Netherlands, each credit represents 28 hours of work. The recognition of credits is at the discretion of your Master's.
