Introducing the Social Media Team

University College Twente regularly posts articles on Facebook and images on Instagram to keep people up-to-date on developments and achievements within UCT. Behind these posts is a complete team of students: the social media team.

Mark Brady
What do you currently study/work on?
I just finished my first year at ATLAS, I’m now doing my personal pursuit on serious games in higher education.

What is your goal in the social media team and why?
Most of the people here are all working on really interesting projects. I want to provide awareness for them. For the reader, I want to give them a better idea of what we’re like, and what the study is. I want to give them an idea as to how they can fit into that.

What is your role in the social media team?
I’m one of the writers, along with Roos. I’ve written articles on the experience of internationals in ATLAS, and some exciting first-year projects.

Why do you like this role in the team?
I’ve found that my classmates are all interesting, getting to know the intricacies of their experiences here and how they’re dealing with it provides some really nice insights. They often have a lot to say, and I enjoy offering them an outlet. It’s also just a lot of fun to talk to them about what’s currently got them excited.

Roos Bulthuis
What do you currently study/work on?
I am part of the first alumni class of the ATLAS program and currently doing a masters in biomedical engineering. In August I will be starting an internship in Denmark for 3 months after I will hopefully finish my master thesis in July 2018.

What is your goal in the social media team and why?
My goal is to collect interesting stories from inside the ATLAS community and share this with the ‘outside’ world. In this way, I hope to contribute to a better understanding of what ATLAS is all about, but foremost I would like to show what the students and teachers are achieving.

What is your role in the social media team?
I am one of the writers of the social media team. I have written on several topics, but my first responsibility is the alumni update.

Why do you like this role in the team?
Firstly, I love writing. I like to put words together and get across my message on paper. Secondly, in this way I can stay involved in the ATLAS community; once you have been a part it, you always want to come back!

Tenz Dolmans
What do you currently study/work on?
I just finished my first year in the ATLAS programme and I am still busy with some final electives. I will also be making a promotional video for the programme, in Japanese. Being the chair of the board of S.A. Atlantis will be one of my main occupations next year.

What is your goal in the social media team and why?
My goal for the social media team is to show everyone all the amazing things that ATLAS students and teachers do, and to share with anyone who is interested why ATLAS is such a unique programme! A lot of incredible stories are not being told, I think it is our job to make sure that they are heard.

What is your role in the social media team?
I am a vlog/video interview host! This means that you will be seeing my face in those types of videos.

Why do you like this role in the team?
I have always loved being in direct contact with people and I believe that the best interviews are done in person, not through writing! Being able to facilitate these interviews is awesome. Also, the vlogs that we will be making about ATLAS, will sketch a clearer idea for prospecting students. It’s exciting to represent ATLAS in this way!

Levi van der Heijden
What do you currently study/work on?
I am part of the class of 2017, which means that I am graduating! After ATLAS, I am going to pursue two masters, one in Business Administration and one in Business and IT.

What is your goal in the social media team and why?
I want to give people more information about ATLAS, showing them the unique value my bachelor programme has to offer. I want to make sure that the achievements, projects and events within ATLAS are heard among a larger audience, and show people that education can be different from the standard system!

What is your role in the social media team?
I am the coordinator of the social media team, and I film and edit all videos on the Facebook page. As I coordinator, I make sure that there is a consistent flow of interesting content and beautiful pictures on the ATLAS Facebook page and website!

Why do you like this role in the team?
I like to work with a group of creative people and come up and create cool content with these people. I make sure that new content ideas are discussed, refined and produced. As the editor of the social media team, I also produce all the ATLAS vlogs together with Tenzing. This allows me to give people a different look into the ATLAS programme and allows me to learn more about filming and editing.

Paul Meyer
What do you currently study/work on?
I’m a first-year ATLAS student and, hence, will graduate in 2019. Currently, I am focusing my work on finite element analysis and acceptance of technology. In addition, I’m exploring the field of wildlife photography for my personal pursuit.

What is your goal in the social media team and why?
My goal in the social media team is to present insightful perspectives of the ATLAS study and student life. Additionally, I am aiming to document the dynamic process in which ATLAS is evolving.

What is your role in the social media team?
I’m the photographer of the social media team. Hence, I have my camera with me at most of the ATLAS activities, but also during everyday student life, as the study is always open for surprises. I provide most of the pictures for the Facebook and Instagram page of the University College Twente.

Why do you like this role in the team?
Photography has always been my greatest hobby, as it gives me the opportunity to express my point of view, document happenings for the future, as well as a mean of creativity. Taking pictures for the Social Media Team allows to combine my hobby with my study and share my perspectives on the study with everyone else.

Tim Roelofs
What do you currently study/work on?
I am part of the class of 2018 and just finished my second year of ATLAS. Next semester, I will be studying in Hong Kong.

What is your goal in the social media team and why?
Through our social media, I want to show the world the everything that is happening in unique aspects of ATLAS and of our community. Social media are a great opportunity to show what ATLAS is like throughout the whole year, rather than only at the open days.

What is your role in the social media team?
I could say that I am the ‘graphic designer’ of our team. I design infographics and other things for our Facebook page, and together with Paul, I manage our Instagram account (@university_college_twente).

Why do you like this role in the team?
Design is a great hobby of mine, and I like that I can make myself useful for the promotion of our University College. Next to my work for the social media team, I also make other things for ATLAS, such as the programme booklets that are used at the open days, and the signs at the ATLAS Expo.
