Jamie Hyneman and ATLAS The mythbuster returns to his honorary Alma Mater

The UCT had an interesting morning, when Jamie Hyneman of Mythbusters fame visited our university college. This provided us with a chance to showcase our methods, along with the results of said methods. The morning started with an introduction, followed by a discussion of the spirit behind our University College, a demonstration of our learning style, and closed with a brief demonstration of some of our semester projects including games to promote movement, a project which involved virtually recreating a destroyed cathedral, and many others.

The event ended with Mr. Hyneman issuing an open challenge to our college, to tackle projects related to exercise in mental efficiency. Personally, this seems like an exciting point to explore, and I hope it’s tackled in the coming years.

This isn’t the first mark he’s made on the University of Twente. During the 50th Dies Natalis of the UT, the Mythbusters received honorary doctorates for their popularisation of science.

The University College has also had previous contact with this Buster-of-Myths; back at the start of our study, he was involved in the opening ceremony. We were happy to give him a chance to see what we have achieved now.

Jamie Hyneman’s activities didn’t end within the UT with this event, it was followed by an open university tour, which we hope will make the public more aware of our work here.
