In this course, Gerben Tuin draws on his multidisciplinary background of physics and performing arts to help you reframe your approach to public speaking, develop verbal and non-verbal communication skills for public speaking, and learn how to:
Let's go beyond the typical advice for giving good presentations and really get into the dynamics of public speaking. No more ‘’tell them what you will say, say it, and tell them what you have said’’. Presenting isn't just a linear model of communication (unidirectional transfer of information from sender to receiver), so in these four workshops you can learn how to understand and navigate it as a transactional model (reciprocal sending and receiving of messages between you and your audience).
Session 1 - nerves and eye contact
Session 2 - silence, emphasis & hand-usage, asking questions to the audience
Session 3 - body placement to shift focus to slide and an exploration of other ways to visualise
Session 4 - how to use the previous techniques to manage the audience activity: repetition and practice
11 hours: 4 x 2 hour workshops (8) and 3 x preparation tasks of up to 1 hour (3)
