OPEN SESSIONS
Staff members have repeatedly expressed interest in open sessions dedicated to the visual representation of information, or Information Design. Therefore, the University Library facilitates monthly guided sessions that allow attendees to acquire basic knowledge on Information Design and improve the quality of their projects (think of a poster, slide deck, visual abstract or infographic). During the sessions, attendees and teaching staff typically reflect on effectiveness of a design in terms of visual communication, and less on aesthetics. For a full course on this topic, please sign up for Information Design – Beginner Course.
TAILORED TO YOU
During the Monthly Meetups attendees can decide themselves how they want to use their time. If you bring a project that you are working on to the meetup, exercises such as the ones below can be carried out. Other activities, such as a plenary discussion on a good and a bad design or a short lecture on a design discipline, can be requested by the attendees. If you wish to work on a completely new design and receive some guidance, that is also possible.
- Sketching: exercises to explain your design and to quickly create improved versions, to be discussed with other attendees and/or the teaching staff
- Peer-review: exercises to discover what others think of your design choices and what changes would help them understand your visuals more easily.
- Self-check: exercises to assess your own design using a set of criteria provided during the session and discuss your considerations with the teaching staff
