Result
In this course, participants will extend their basic knowledge of Dutch, going from CEF-level A2 to A2/B1. Participants receive a certificate after 80% attendance and if the course portfolio is evaluated positively.
Content
The course consists of two lessons per week: a preparation lesson and a practice lesson. In the preparation lesson, you use the course’s online learning platform to listen to dialogues, practise and learn grammar, do exercises and learn the vocabulary, together with your classmates and under the guidance of a teaching assistant.
In the practice lesson, you will actively work with the teacher and your classmates and practise all the topics you have prepared in the preparation lesson. This way, at the end of the course, you will be able to function in Dutch at CEF-level A2/B1. You are on your way to the following CEF-level B1 learning objectives and are learning to:
- understand key points from clear standard texts on familiar matters regularly encountered at work, school and leisure,
- cope with most situations that may arise when traveling in areas where Dutch is spoken,
- produce a simple running text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest,
- describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and can briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
You will be evaluated based on a portfolio, which you have to complete by the end of the course. The portfolio consists of listening and reading tests, writing assignments, a practical speaking exercise outside of class and a spoken exam in the final lesson. If the result is satisfactory, you will be able to enrol in the B1 course.
Duration and Time investment
Attendance at every lesson is essential. The course consists of 20 lessons of two hours each, with two sessions every week: one preparation lesson and one practice lesson. Homework is expected to take approximately two hours per week, in addition to the preparation lesson.
