Group folder (P drive)

For employees and students

The Group folder (also know as p-drive) is a standard service for UT organisational units (department, chair). Users of the unit can share data via the group folder.

Specifications

  • Uses a replicated storage cluster where the data between both UT data centres is synchronised in real time. Should one of these data centres go down, the other data centre is automatically selected to ensure the service is never interrupted (high availability). The storage cluster is ISO 27001 and NEN 7510 certified. The storage cluster uses solid state disks (SSDs) to achieve reliable performance;
  • Includes antivirus defences, ransomware protection and backups;
  • Data areas are made available through the SMB protocol;
  • Standard size of 500GB;
  • Can be used by both undergraduates (unit members) and staff;
  • Files can be recovered to a maximum of 31 days using Previous Versions. Six versions of file/folder are stored daily;
  • Cannot be used offline;
  • Not suitable as a tool for collaborating with external parties (non-UT). This requires a special x account to be applied for;
  • eduVPN is required for SMB connections outside of the UT network;
  • Expansion is possible through additional storage using UT Drive or UT DrivePlus with corresponding specifications-> self-service portal

Access

Can be accessed using SMB (\\ad.utwente.nl\org).
