The University of Twente wants to contribute to sustainability, energy, and corporate social responsibility. After a successful pilot in 2014 in the Vrijhof and the Paviljoen, all buildings have been equipped with bins to sort waste in 2017, so-called waste isles.
The waste isles will be placed at central locations, for example near the coffee machine. The waste can be separated into 4 streams:
- Organic waste
- Plastic, Metal, Beverage Packaging
- Residual waste
What does this mean for me?
As the waste will be sorted at various central locations in the buildings at the waste isles, there will no longer be any waste bins near the desks and in the lecture theatres. You will need to cover a small distance to throw your waste away, just like you would in most households.
