How to apply & application criteria

There are three ways to apply for a EngD programme:

  • Apply for a vacancy

For an overview of current vacancies (incl. project descriptions) and how to apply, see the vacancy website of the University. Please submit your application with the following documents:

    • A short CV (max 1 A4)
    • Motivation (max. 1 A4)
    • Average of your grades
    • Grade of your final assignment

If you are you already working for a company and you get the opportunity to develop yourself further, you can also apply for a EngD position.

The principle of the vocationally oriented doctorate in engineering is that you, the set of courses and the expert coaching will come together with only one thought: ‘the best possible solution for the design problem of your company’. Therefore the composition of the curriculum will be made together with your organisation.

    Procedure

In consultation with your company and the University of Twente, you can create a proposal by your own in the field of Business & IT, Civil Engineering, Energy & Process Technology, Maintenance or Robotics. After you've ensured permission from your company, you can contact the University at the following email addresses:

The programme director will contact you to discuss the project further.

  • Open application

We will keep a record of all interested candidates and will contact you shortly after a vacancy is available if we consider you to be an appropriate candidate.

Candidates for our EngD programmes will be selected based on their results in their MSc-programme, their affinity/talent for designing and their motivation for the program and the topic of the design project.

    Requirements

Always submit your open application with the following:

General selection criteria

Selection for the EngD programmes is strict and based on your results of your MSc-program, your affinity/talent for designing and your motivation for the program and the topic of the design project.

Requirements for international candidates

Applicants for the EngD programme should have a MSc degree or an equivalent qualification from an officially recognized university or accredited academic institution in a discipline related to that of the Master’s programme. Also check the specific subject requirements on the individual Master's programme websites.

If you have yet to complete your MSc programme, you can still apply for admission to a EngD programme at the University of Twente. You may be granted a conditional acceptance based on your transcripts, detailed curriculum information, relevant research and expected graduation date. However, you must submit your MSc degree before you can start the EngD programme.

Language requirements

Doctoral candidates with a non-Dutch qualification are admitted if they have sufficient command of the English language. Official documents with test results are required for candidates who did not complete their secondary and tertiary education in the English language. The UT accepts the following English-language tests:
