When you sign up, you have to upload several documents during the application process.
Below you will find a complete list of example documents that are often required to complete your application. Our application systems will also specify which documents you need to upload. If a document is not required, you will not get a question about it. The documents you need to upload during the application process depend on your nationality, your country of prior education, your personal circumstances, and the (pre-)master’s programme you have chosen.
Still need to graduate? Even if you have not yet graduated, you can still apply at any time. However, you need to graduate before the start of the academic year.

- the personal details page(s) of your international passport, or
- the front and back of your national ID card (EEA students only).
Note: If you hold multiple nationalities and wish to have them registered, please also upload valid identity documents for each nationality. The University of Twente will only register nationalities for which valid identity documents have been submitted.
Reason Why
Your uploaded document will be used to verify your personal details. In addition, the information will be used to ensure that your name and date of birth match those stated on your official educational documents.

During your application, information regarding the application fee will be provided within the application form. You will find a link to the website aanmelder.nl, a platform through which you can make the payment.
Payment can be made using a credit card, PayPal, iDEAL, or bank transfer. Once the payment has been completed, you will receive an invoice. Please upload this invoice as part of your application.
Reason why
The University of Twente has introduced an application fee for some (pre-)master’s programmes.
Example
The image on the left shows an example of a correct final invoice, which can be recognised by the text: "The invoice has already been paid via (…)".
The image on the right shows an example of an incorrect provisional invoice. This can be identified by the bold text: "Your payment will only be processed if the invoice number is in the description. Do not combine multiple invoices in one payment" as well as the bottom-right column displaying the payment deadline and the text: "To be paid before: (…)".
Do not make any changes to the invoice yourself under any circumstances. Any modifications will be regarded by the University of Twente as fraudulent, and this will result in your application being rejected. Please wait for the final invoice before proceeding.
Instructions
Within your application, you will be asked to provide information regarding your previous education. In this section, you may list up to four academic degrees. If you have obtained more than four degrees, you can upload additional documents under the final question, titled ‘additional educational documents’.
Please note that a course is not considered an academic degree, as it typically lasts less than a year. Additionally, a high school diploma is not required. The academic degrees you should include are:
- Associate Degree
- Higher National Diploma/Certificate
- National Diploma/Certificate
- Bachelor’s degree
- Master’s degree
- Doctorate degree (PhD)
- Post-graduate degree
- Advanced professional degree
You may apply even if you have not yet completed your degree(s). You will be asked to provide an estimated date of completion, which must be before the start of the academic year.
If you have already graduated, please upload either an official graduation statement or an official (provisional) degree certificate in both:
- the original national language
- an official sworn translation into English or Dutch.
If the original document is in English, Dutch, or German, no translation is required. Please ensure your certificate includes your full name, date of birth, the official name of your diploma, and the institution’s name and logo.
Please note that a graduation statement or provisional degree certificate is valid for one year from the date of completion of your studies. If you are applying after this period, the final certificate is required.
Reason why
Your upload(s) will be used to verify that your degree(s) were obtained from a recognised and accredited higher education institution. Additionally, your diploma('s) will be used to assess the level of your education, as educational systems vary between countries.

- Please ensure your transcript of records includes your full name, date of birth (preferable), the official name of your diploma, and the institution’s name and logo.
- If your transcript consists of multiple documents, please combine these into one file in chronological order, and minimise the number of files you upload by merging documents where possible.
- Admission decisions are, among other factors, based on your CGPA, so providing this information is essential. If you have not yet completed your degree, the University of Twente will use your most recent CGPA. If your final CGPA and/or grading scale is not mentioned on your transcript:
- Upload an official document outlining your university’s grading system. This may be a document written by yourself, provided it includes a web link to your university’s official grading scale. This information must be in English or Dutch.
- If your final or current CGPA is not on your transcript, please upload an official statement from your institution indicating your final or current CGPA.
Reason why
Your upload will be used to assess the grades you have obtained during your studies. Additionally, it will provide insight into the courses you completed and the duration of your previous degree programme.
