PDEng programmes are two-year, full-time programmes that can be followed at a university upon completion of a master’s programme. They have been around in our country for 35 years. The four universities of technology provide the PDEng programmes through their 4TU partnership.
The Universities of Applied Sciences (HBOs) may soon start offering a similar programme with a Professional Doctorate degree. To make the distinction clear, 4TU have decided to change their degree to ‘Engineering Doctorate’ (EngD). The PDEng degree was a Dutch degree, whereas EngD internationally stands for an academic level 3 degree.
