Jan de Jong (alumnus EngD Robotics)

I have consciously chosen the EngD because a PhD was too science-driven; I'd rather work at a high level for a company on a great assignment. Through my master's project, I actually got familiar with the EngD. In my Master's project, I made the start of my current design, and during my EngD programme, I developed the design further.

"I consciously chose the EngD because I wanted to work at a high level on a real industry assignment rather than focus purely on academic research.”

Learning how to design in practice

In addition to the technical skills I learn, I learned a lot of practical knowledge, such as how to design. Through the EngD, I got more feeling about how design works in practice. During your Master's assignment, you work on a design, whereas after finishing the EngD, you actually CAN design.”
