Putting theory into practice
At the University of Twente, you will not simply be immersed in theory, but you will also learn how to apply it in practice. Many of your courses will involve working on genuine policy issues and designing solutions to problems that European governments are currently facing.
Freedom to choose
After providing you with a broad theoretical basis in European Studies, the programme offers an elective course to go along with your free choice of a Master's Thesis subject. On top of this, there’s the option of taking a double degree in Comparative Public Governance in Europe in cooperation with the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster.
Multidisciplinary perspective
The programme’s multidisciplinary basis sets it apart from its rivals in the Netherlands. At the University of Twente, you will not only examine the extensive field of European processes and activities, but you will also consider the similarities and differences with non-EU countries. We analyse complex issues from the perspectives of law, political science, economics and sociology.
Strong international orientation
A fully English curriculum, working closely with students from around the globe, joint programmes with foreign universities and opportunities in foreign countries, international staff, international networks and research programmes: need we say more?
The personal touch
The atmosphere between lecturers and students is friendly and informal. You never have to worry if you want to ask a question about an assignment because the door is almost always open. Excellent student guidance is available to help you make the right choices during your programme and the Public Administration study counsellor is always on hand to help you with any problems you might have.

The University of Twente encourages a spirit of enterprise. Motivated and ambitious students have the opportunity to start their own business even before they have completed their studies. In 2019 Twente was awarded the title of most entrepreneurial university in the Netherlands.

Living in Enschede
The University of Twente is located in the beautiful city of Enschede, in the east of the Netherlands. The lively city centre is very popular with students: you are sure to bump into someone you know at one of the many restaurants, cafés or pubs around the market square. Last but by no means least, finding affordable accommodation is much easier in Enschede than in other university cities.
