Looking for a challenge? Broaden your horizon by adding an extra programme to your Master’s!
As a student at the University of Twente (UT), you have many opportunities to expand your knowledge outside of your own Master’s as well. Are you up for a challenge? Gain additional meaningful and multidisciplinary skills and knowledge to be able to respond to societal challenges and questions even more effectively. Complementing your Master’s with an additional programme might be the perfect way to do so.
Go for a double degree
Within the Master's in European Studies, you have the option to follow a double degree programme that we offer together with the University of Münster in Germany. Upon completion, you will receive two separate Master’s degrees.
You can complete this double degree within just two years – instead of the three years that apply to these two separate programmes. You will follow courses in Twente and Münster and you will write a combined master’s thesis.
Master Honours programme
Excellent students can take part in one of our Master Honours Programmes: an extracurricular, broadening programme of 15 EC. Such a programme gives you, alongside your Master’s, the opportunity to enrich your knowledge, skills, and experiences outside your own discipline. Upon successful completion of the programme, you receive a certificate and an Honours Pin.
We advise you to start with your Master's first, before applying for a Master Honours Programme. A couple of months of studying will help you to decide whether a Master Honour Programme will be feasible for you. You can discuss this option with your study adviser.
If you do decide to apply for an Honours programme, note that acceptance is based on a selection procedure. Honours programmes are aimed at master's students who are among the top 10% of their class.

Master-Insert ‘Shaping Responsible Futures’
Are you socially engaged and do you want to explore societal challenges beyond your own study programme? University of Twente's DesignLab offers you the Transdisciplinary Master-Insert. In this programme, you will go beyond your normal, academic setting by working on societal challenges with real-world stakeholders. You can follow one, two or all three courses.
Using tools and techniques from across disciplines, you will learn to bring academic, professional, and experiential knowledge together. You become part of a community of transdisciplinary change-makers and earn yourself an official certificate complementary to your master's degree.
Our courses:
- Creative Intelligence (Q2 | 10 EC): Create tools and materials to support creative group activities involving people from a diversity of disciplinary backgrounds.
- Responsible Futuring (Q3 | 10 EC): Proactively take up societal challenges and design interventions that co-shape societies for pluriversal futures.
- Leading Systemic Change (Q4 | 10 EC): Learn how to manage the change-making process by designing, developing, and deploying holistic systems thinking.
The Master-Insert is open to all enrolled master’s students at UT. You can also apply if you are a master's student at ECIU or any of UT's partner universities.
