Tuition fees

Missed our Online Open Day?

The University of Twente applies two types of student tuition fees. Find out which fee is right for your situation.

Tuition fees are adjusted annually on the basis of the Dutch Consumer Price Index and an academic year is the annual period of sessions beginning in September and ending in June.

Tuition fees for EU/EEA students

If you are a national of an EU/EEA country, it is likely you need to pay the so-called ‘statutory tuition fee’. This fee is determined and subsidised by the Dutch government. The statutory tuition fee applies to most, but not all students from EU/EEA countries and/or master’s (also see ‘Institutional tuition fee’). Visit the website of Student Services for detailed payment conditions, such as the tuition fee rates for starting your studies in February or part-time.

Tuition fees for non-EU/EEA students

If you are a national of a non-EU/EEA country, you will need to pay the so-called 'institutional fee'. This fee is higher than the statutory fee because Dutch universities do not receive government funding for non-EU/EEA students. Visit the website of Student Services for detailed payment conditions, such as the tuition fee rates for starting your studies in February or part-time.

Tuition fee for pre-master's with divergent number of EC’s

To follow a pre-master's you have to pay an amount per EC. The total amount is based on the number of EC’s from your pre-master's.
The amount per EC is set at € 36.82 for the academic year of 2022-2023.

Two examples

Your pre-master's is 30 EC: you will pay € 36.82 x 30 EC = € 1,104.60
Your pre-master's is 45 EC: you will pay € 36.82 x 45 EC = € 1,656.90

Applying for a scholarship?

If you apply for a scholarship for a two- or three-year course, bear in mind that the institutional tuition fees for the following year are not the same. The fees for the subsequent years increase yearly and are therefore higher than year 1. Take this into account when applying for a scholarship. This can prevent you from having to co-finance the difference in tuition fees for the following years.

Visit the website of Student Services for the tuition fees of the following years.
