Admission Double Degree - HBO students

AS A BACHELOR'S STUDENT FROM A UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES (HBO), YOU NEED TO FOLLOW A PRE-MASTER'S FIRST.

If you have a bachelor’s degree from a university of applied sciences (HBO), you do not automatically meet the admission requirements for the double degree Master’s in Policy, Governance & Communication. If your HBO degree is sufficiently related to Communication Science and Public Administration, you will follow a pre-master’s. You can only start the Master’s after completing this pre-master’s, which is designed to bring your knowledge to the required level.

Please submit two separate applications via Studielink for both MSc Communication Science and MSc Public Administration. Also provide clear and relevant information why you are applying for the double degree Master’s programme Policy, Governance & Communication in your motivation letter.

Admission requirements Pre-Master Policy, Governance & Communication programme

To qualify for the Pre-Master’s programme followed by the double degree Master’s programme Policy, Governance & Communication you have to meet the following conditions:

  • Below, you can find a selection of HBO bachelor's that are considered admissible for this Master's:

    • Public Administration (Bestuurskunde)
    • Commercial Economics (Commerciële Economie)
    • Communication Science (Communicatie)
    • Fiscal Economics (Fiscale Economie)
    • Tax Law and Economics (Fiscaal Recht en Economie)
    • Integrated Safety and Security Studies (Integrale Veiligheidskunde)
    • International Business and Management (International Business and Management)
    • Business Administration, Economics and Law (Management Economie en Recht)

    Is your Bachelor programme not listed, know that you can always apply for admission. In all cases, the admission committee will conduct an individual assessment procedure to determine if you have sufficient basic qualifications in Communication Science and Public Administration.

  • If you want to enroll in the Pre-Master, you need to submit the following documents:

    • Copy of diploma
    • Transcript of records
    • Motivational letter, give clear and relevant information on why you are applying for the double degree Master’s programme Policy, Governance and Communication (max. 2 pages).

Content Pre-Master's Policy, Governance & Communication programme

During your Pre-Master’s you are taught various scientific research skills and your knowledge in mathematics and statistics is raised to an academic level. If you manage to successfully complete this Pre-Master’s within one year, you will be able to enrol for the double degree Master’s programme Policy, Governance & Communication.

Study load

The Pre-Master's is a six-month, full-time study programme of 30 EC which you have to complete within one year. You also need to obtain sufficient marks with a maximum of one resit per course permitted.

You can start the Pre-Master's during your bachelor's as a transfer minor or after obtaining your Bachelor’s degree. The content is the same, but the enrolment method is different.

Costs

You pay a fee per EC and this Pre-Master's is 30 EC. Each academic year, the amount per EC will be reassessed. Visit the tuition page for the current fees.

If you choose to fit your Pre-Master's into your current HBO Bachelor's, you can avoid extra costs; after all, you already pay tuition fees for your current Bachelor's.
