Applied Mathematics has four specialisations:
Mathematical systems theory, applied analysis and computational science (SACS)
The specialisation SACS focuses on fundamental and practical aspects of dynamical phenomena and computational and control aspects thereof. With this specialisation you will become an expert in developing and applying mathematical tools for solving problems that arise in physical and technical systems.
Operations Research (OR)
The specialisation OR aims to develop mathematical and computational support for the evaluation and optimisation of operational and logistical questions in industry, services and business.
Mathematics of Data Science (MDS)
In Mathematics of Data Science you will apply mathematical models and algorithms to analyse data, draw conclusions and make decisions. You will learn about new developments in fields such as machine learning, big data and statistics. Most importantly, you will learn about the underlying mathematics. Artificial Intelligence for Health (AI4Health) is a track within the specialisation Mathematics of Data Science and focuses on understanding Artificial Intelligence, the mathematics behind it how to leverage the potential of AI for high-stakes real-world applications in healthcare. You will gain a solid foundation in statistics, machine learning and operations research will put the theory into practice in real-world case studies, developed in close collaboration with clinical partners in hospitals.
