Impact story #02 - Improving food security in Ethiopia

The story of Kisanet's fair trade mission

Farmers in Ethiopia have difficulties selling their products beyond the local markets. The lack of a well-organised food chain results in farmers selling their products to middlemen at exploitative prices, so farmers make little money while local consumers pay high prices. How to help these farmers get fair prices and contribute to food security for (local) consumers? Kisanet, an Ethiopian student at the University of Twente, has developed an online platform that connects farmers with consumers without any interference from a third party.

One project, three perspectives

At UT, we believe that solutions to challenges like this can only be created by joining forces from different perspectives. How can students of the Master's in Spatial Engineering, Business Information Technology, and Public Administration contribute to food security in a country like Ethiopia?
