At the University of Twente, we feel a great responsibility to contribute to a sustainable world. Collaboration with partners who are not committed to achieving climate goals and research projects that encourage the use of fossil fuels does not fit in with this responsibility. That means that we do not initiate research projects that encourage the use of fossil fuels.
To assess whether new or renewed collaborations with partners in the fossil industry do not have a negative impact on achieving climate objectives, such projects have to be assessed by the committee on collaborations with the fossil industry. As a researcher, it is mandatory to ask the committee for advice if you intend to start or renew a project in collaboration with the fossil industry.
Please note: the advice of this committee solely concerns the impact of your project on achieving climate goals. It does not address other ethical concerns, knowledge safety et cetera. For more information on these topics, see the research support page.
Way of working
The committee will assess all new or renewed collaborations of UT researchers with the fossil industry. First and foremost, the researcher's own considerations for entering a collaboration with a particular partner and the expected impact are important. It is not the case that certain potential partners are excluded in advance. Based on the assessment of the committee, the dean of the researcher’s faculty ultimately takes the decision whether or not to start a project. If this decision differs from the assessment of the committee, the dean will give a motivated notice why to the Executive Board.
How to apply
If you want the committee to assess your project, please send it to the committee at least three months before signing an agreement. You can do so by sending an email to ccfi@utwente.nl.
Please include the following information in your mail:
A short description of the project and its impact; impact that can be expected, scientific and/or social, positive or negative. The submitter is also expected to reflect on the role of the specific partner in the process. The committee will assess the submitted proposal and elaborate on the criteria mentioned below. It does not replace the work of other assessments (e.g. knowledge safety, ethics committees).
