Tuition fees are adjusted annually on the basis of the Dutch Consumer Price Index and an academic year is the annual period of sessions beginning in September and ending in June.

Statutory tuition fee (EU/EEA nationals) in the Netherlands

If you are a national of an EU/EEA country, it is likely you need to pay the so-called ‘statutory tuition fee’. This fee is determined and subsidised by the Dutch government. The statutory tuition fee applies to most, but not all students from EU/EEA countries and/or master’s (also see ‘Institutional tuition fee’). Visit the website of Student Services for detailed payment conditions

In the Netherlands, the statutory tuition fees for the academic year 2021-2022 are:

Euro 2,168 per year for a master’s. Each (academic) year the tuition fee will be adjusted.

Euro 1,084 per 30 EC (study credit) for a pre-master’s. You pay a similar amount depending on the size of your pre-master's.

Institutional tuition fee (non-eu/Eea nationals)

Dutch universities do not receive government funding for non-EU/EEA students. Therefore, except for the pre-master's, non-EEA students need to pay higher fees. Visit the website of Student Services for detailed payment conditions

Applying for a scholarship?

If you apply for a scholarship for a two- or three-year course, bear in mind that the institutional tuition fees for the following year are not the same. The fees for the subsequent years increase yearly and are therefore higher than year 1. Take this into account when applying for a scholarship. This can prevent you from having to co-finance the difference in tuition fees for the following years.

Visit the website of Student Services for the tuition fees of the following years.
