Health research groups and educational programmes are integrated in the new Technical Medical Centre of the University of Twente. The Technical Medical Centre aims to improve healthcare by personalized technology. It functions as an innovation hub and meeting place where students, teachers, researchers and companies can work together on innovations for healthcare.
The research of the Technical Medical Centre can be dived in five research domains. Researchers work together on issues such as: Imaging & Diagnostics, Bioengineering technologies, Medical physiology, Biorobotics and Health Sciences. This working method results in cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research. It strengthens the cohesion between current research and it facilitates the opening up of entirely new fields of research. The Technical Medical Centre has appointed various clinical professors in order to ensure that the wants of clinicians remain central and to encourage cooperation with the medical community.
Another important mainstay of the Technical Medical Centre is entrepreneurship. In order to ensure that patients benefit from the knowledge and technology of this centre. Therefore the centre is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, ranging from research labs, preclinical testbeds and simulated hospital environments.
