Further studies and the job market

After getting your Bachelor’s degree in Technical Computer Science, you can further specialise by completing a master’s. Most students choose to do this. You can follow a master’s at the University of Twente, at another Dutch university, or at a university abroad. A few of our bachelor’s graduates join the job market straight away, or start their own business.

Further studies: Computer Science

A lot of Technical Computer Science alumni continue on to our two-year, English-taught Master’s Computer Science. The master’s is the perfect follow-up to the Bachelor’s Technical Computer Science. It offers four specialisations: Software Technology, Data Science & Technology, Internet Science & Technology, and Cyber Security

Other Master’s

With your Bachelor’s degree in Technical Computer Science, you are directly admissible to other master’s, too, such as Embedded Systems, or Interaction Technology. With your Bachelor’s in TCS, you can enter most engineering & technology master’s, provided you first complete a pre-master’s. This also applies to master’s at other (inter) national universities.

A master’s in social sciences, such as Psychology, Philosophy, or Public Administration, is also possible. In most cases, you will have to take a tailored pre-master’s first.

Some students combine the Master’s Technical Computer Science with our Dutch-taught Science Education and Communication, which allows you to work in education, among other things.

Finding a job after the Master’s Technical Computer Science

After this programme, you will be trained to apply and understand information technology. There is huge demand in many different sectors for professionals who are eager to use technology for solving problems, and who are capable of organising solutions and putting them in the right context. If you want to start working with your additional master's, you will find plenty of job opportunities, even right here in Twente, the fastest growing industrial region in the Netherlands. Most graduates find a job within three months of completing their master’s. As an expert in a young branch of science, you will then be free to choose your place in a vast field.

Start your own company

You can also start your own business with a solution that you have developed. The UT enjoys recognition as ‘the most entrepreneurial university’ in the Netherlands. One of our strengths is applying knowledge to meaningfully influence society. Together with our students, we like to work with the innovation specialists from Novel-T, who like to tap into promising innovative business cases.

Examples of spin-offs that have come out of this programme include Thuisbezorgd.nl, an online platform that allows consumers to have restaurant meals delivered to their homes, Booking.com, one of the world’s largest e-commerce companies for trips and No Wires Needed, a manufacturer of wireless computer networks that since its founding has been acquired by another company.
