Meet Laura, who recently finished the second year of her studies in Advanced Technology.
Laura Berkhof's experiences
How do you like studying Advanced Technology in Enschede?
Laura really enjoys studying Advanced Technology. "I like it so much because in every module you are introduced to a different topic in a different field of technology. This gives you the opportunity to figure out what you like."
In the beginning, she was interested in both Chemical Engineering and Applied Physics. As Laura explains: "I was not sure which study I preferred. During my first two years, I was able to try subjects and even had some modules on Electrical Engineering. Now I know I prefer Chemical Engineering, so I will follow courses in this field of expertise in my third year, allowing me to follow a chemical master eventually."
Why did you choose the University of Twente?
There are several reasons why Laura chose the University of Twente. "Besides the fact that you are only able to study Advanced Technology at the University of Twente, I really like the atmosphere on the campus. The campus is located outside the city which really makes it its own community. There is housing, a grocery store, a doctor and there even is a hairdresser! When the weather is nice, there are lots of people taking a walk outside or chilling in the sun, giving an overall happy vibe."
"Furthermore, there are many opportunities at the University of Twente. If you want to do something, you can, and the university also stimulates students to engage in activities alongside their studies. For example, I am taking a gap year right now to be part of the board of the study association of Advanced Technology."

What is the added value of this programme for the society?
"After studying Advanced Technology, you will have a broad education, providing you with much knowledge on different topics. When you have to oversee projects, you can combine all of your experience and make sure that all parts of the project are executed well."
What kind of work do you see yourself doing in the future?
"I see myself becoming a project leader or manager. During my bachelor's, I gained a great deal of knowledge about different fields of technology, and during my board year, I found that I really like organising and leading events. A combination of these two things would be my ideal job."
