Future-Proofing Healthcare Through 20 Years of Research, Education and Impact

For two decades, CHOIR (Centre for Healthcare Operations Improvement & Research) has been at the forefront of transforming healthcare through science, collaboration, and innovation. Founded at the University of Twente, CHOIR bridges the gap between operational research and real-world healthcare challenges: improving patient flows, resource allocation, and decision-making across hospitals and care systems.

As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, we look back on the pioneering projects, inspiring partnerships, and dedicated researchers who shaped CHOIR’s journey. At the same time, we look forward: exploring how data-driven insights, new technologies, and interdisciplinary education can help future-proof healthcare for the next generation.

Programme
In the morning, founders Richard Boucherie and Erwin Hans, together with CHOIR’s first PhD graduates, reflect on 20 years of progress and influence. In the afternoon, inspiring speakers such as Mark van Houdenhoven (Treant) explore the future of CHOIR’s research across the healthcare system. The day offers inspiration, discussion, and networking — ending with a festive reception.

Individual tickets are priced at €55,-, which includes a full day of inspiring sessions, engaging discussions, and networking opportunities. Welcome to the website of the Center for Healthcare Operations Improvement and Research. CHOIR is a research center within the University of Twente (UT), the Netherlands. It is currently one of the most active and productive research groups in the field of Operations Research and Management in Healthcare. Through Research, Education and Valorization, we help healthcare practitioners face their complex logistical challenges.
