START 1 JUNE

  • THU - Breath Workshop

    Date: 1 June 2023
    Time: 15.00 - 16.00
    Location: TBD
    Given by: SACC

Many people recognize that feeling of restlessness in your body, of nervousness. Your breathing moves suddenly from your stomach to your ribs or even higher and your breathing rate shoots up. Sometimes it is difficult to relax afterwards.

With prolonged stress, your breathing slowly becomes disrupted. In an almost imperceptible way, you begin to breathe more and more shallowly and less efficiently. This costs your body an unnecessary amount of energy and can cause various physical and mental tension complaints.

This breathing workshop briefly discusses the effects of good breathing. Furthermore, short exercises will be done that can lower the stress level.

    Registrations
You can register for this workshop via SACC@utwente.nl, stating your name, student/employee number and preferred date.

Or do you want to know more about this subject for yourself or those who provide informal care? Then, feel free to join this lecture about combining your work with informal care!

  • MON - Running Therapy

    Date: 5 June 2023
    Time: 16.30 - 17.30
Location: Start at Sports Centre UT
Given by: Renee Hof, physiotherapist and running therapist from Topvorm Twente

In the well-being weeks is "Together you care" the main topic. Take care of your own and start with Running Therapy and learn with physical activities to relax and be in balance mentally. Running therapy helps you mentally and physically. Get out of your head and into your body to feel full of energy again!

This activity will take place in groups of a maximum of 12 people. It is not a personal consult.

Running therapy will be an activity that will take place throughout these four weeks and you can start with a session to find out if you like the Running Therapy. The goal is to get mental relaxation by physical effort (running or fast walking). This can be helpful if you have physical or mental complaints such as excessive worrying, depressive symptoms, anxiety- and/or panic attacks and fatigue complaints.

During the small-grouped session, you will learn to recognize the signals your body gives you, and based on this you will get tools to set some boundaries. No basic level of running or running experience is required to sign-up for running therapy.

Normally this therapy takes 8 weeks in a row, but during our well-being weeks you can try out whether this way of relaxation fits you. Getting to know more about running therapy and how it can help is the goal of this clinic during the well-being weeks, and in addition, you get some practical tips. After this experience, it is possible to start with the 8 weeks course in a row.

Do you want to exercise under the supervision of an expert who will help you get a grip on your complaints and helps you to find relaxation?

(and why is this topic important to Menzis)

Mental stress and the effect of it affects millions of people around the globe. It affects your work, your study and your private life. Sometimes so bad that you can’t function at all. In simple words, I’ll try to tell and show you and even make you feel how it’s manifesting itself. No science, just a streetwise explanation.

Work and informal care in balance! How?

You are trying to keep up with multiple tasks. At work, you are loyal to your colleagues and manager. At home, you are trying to do everything to take care of a loved one. Whether it concerns raising your children or intensive and long-term caregiving to others.

Hobbies, social events and me-time? They seem to be no longer part of your daily routine. Find out what can help you to keep the balance between working and caring. Take care of yourself while keeping care of others as well! This is often easier said than done. Therefore, get informed about how you can take control and what kind of support is available to you at work and at home. This way, you will arrive at the solutions that really help you find the balance!

Do you recognise yourself in the following statements?

    • I have little time for myself; How do I keep the balance?
    • I feel guilty towards my colleagues and that I fall short at home.
    • I have to arrange so many things, which makes me feel lost.
    • I want to share my story; How do I share my story at work?
    • What kind of support is available to me at work and at home?
