NWO Invests €3.2 Million in ASCENT for Ecosystem MonitoringThe Dutch Research Council NWO has awarded €3.2 million to Advancing hyperSpectral imaging for Cross-scale Ecosystem fuNctioning and vegeTation research (ASCENT), a new research consortium that will use satellite technology, field measurements and airborne observations to monitor vegetation change and better understand ecosystem function. The University of Twente is a major partner in the project through the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, ITC. ASCENT brings together a starting community of 25 scientists and partners with complementary expertise. Together, they will work on a full knowledge chain: from quantifying vegetation traits and producing Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs), to understanding ecosystem function and translating scientific insights into practical decisions for ecosystem management using digital twin.Read more
